One Day on Earth

Have you heard of this project? On 10/10/10 (my ma's birthday!), regular people all around the world recorded events in a 24-hour period, and the events are now being made into a motion picture. According to their website, "It is an archive of media from the world's most globally conscious citizens. It is the step towards global understanding, global empathy, and global change."

I think I will definitely see the full length film when it comes out. Who's with me?

p.s. Anyone considering submitting footage on the upcoming 11/11/11?

Tunes Tuesday: The Joy Formidable

A friend of mine saw them live at Lollapalooza this Summer. This song would be such fun live! Happy Tunes Tuesday, friends!

Have a fun week

Eegads, I haven't posted in awhile! I guess moving in and getting ready for school got the best of me.

Here are some pictures of the fun I've been up to in Bloomington...

The greek newspaper on campus needed a page one shot, so we submitted a couple!

It was my goal this school year to keep up with blog posts, so I hope school settles into a routine soon. Have a fun first week of class, fellow Hoosiers!

Bake Sale at your door

There are few things I love more than a baked good. This website Bake Sale makes goods to be shipped right to your door! And the chef originally graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism - too cool! ...I think I've found my second calling.

Tunes Tuesday: Guster

Oh my! I'm late for my Tunes Tuesday post. Things here have been crazy between moving in and getting organized, haven't they?

I always associate the band Guster with road trips, for some reason. Them, or Sufjan Stevens. So, for this Tuesday (err... Wednesday. Technically Tuesday from the Chicagoland area!) I will share with you one of my favorite bands since the sixth grade. Hope you love them as much as I do!

Happy birthday, sis!

A very happy birthday to my sister Genevieve today!

I usually get asked a lot if I hate sharing my birthday, do you? Granted, I wasn't too happy when you were the big 2-1 on my sweet 16, I wouldn't have it any other way! There's always someone to call, and share the fun of your birthday! So, here's to rocking our twenties together!

p.s. How related do we look here? Answer: super related!
p.p.s. I'm definitely taller.

Have a girly weekend

I just painted my nails this gray color and am feeling particularly glamorous! After some last minute errands at the mall tomorrow, B-Town, here I come!

I never thought to try rainbow pancakes! Via A Cup of Jo

Marc Jacobs has the cutest little studs that always remind me of my Mom. Tee hee!

Looking for something to bake this weekend? I made these peanut butter cupcakes from Martha, and they're to die for!

If my hair could look half as good as Whitney Port's, I would die happy.
Maybe I'll start with this style first!

Hope you have a girly weekend!

p.s. Happy wedding, Kim Kardashian! Wonder what color will her nails be...

Anthropologie finds: Fall

Anthropologie's the best, don't you think? Here are some glam finds I can't help but share...

The most glamorous cardigans!
A corset with removable straps. Love the bow!
Check out this vest dress! A tad short, but it could double as another layer during Fall.
I'm currently on the hunt for colored denim... Both these colors look super versatile, don't you think?
From their BHLDN line! I'm in love with her red booties.

"Melancholia"

Have you heard of "Melancholia?" It's about a planet hitting Earth amid familial and sister tensions. (Sounds like the foreign planet's a bigger metaphor here, no?)

It doesn't come out in the U.S. until the end of November, but you can watch the trailer here! Plus, Kirsten Dunst won Best Actress at The Cannes Film Festival this past year for her performance. Add this baby to the Grdina family holiday movie list!

Denim on denim: a do or a don't?

photo from The Sartorialist

Smoking: don't. But denim on denim? I'm not sure... I've heard it called a Canadian suit. What are the rules for matching denim? Black on black is cool, so I think denim on denim should be too!

Fall trend: ruffles

Who doesn't love an outfit with tiers? They look great on all shapes and sizes and colors! Ya just can't go wrong.

Dianna Agron rocked the solo ruffle for her Late Night with David Letterman appearance. So classic and flattering!

Zooey went a little overboard on this one, though...

Does this come in my size?

I'm in love with this ruffly tank from Target! And it comes in purple, black, or print for only $19.99. Yes, please!

Reminds me of one my friend got me the other night...

It can be a hard trend to get just right, though. Too small of a tier might look too feathery, while too big of a tier might leave you looking like a wedding cake. Or a monk, like one of our favorite stars...

Start with a monochromatic tone if you're not ready to try a totally tiered outfit (see above). Shirts that knot at the bust are a very similar option, and are a great way to ease into the style! Worn right, ruffles are like a little unexpected accessory. Paired with statement earrings, a tiered tank (with pants, of course) will soon be your go-to outfit!

A wedding to die for

I stumbled upon this wedding on Snippet and Ink, and had to share!

This picture is positively "Sex and the City!" The unmatched dresses look great, don't you think?

Did I mention it was in Florence?

Andrew Bird

In honor of no more theaters to clean this Summer, I thought I would post the final song in "Crazy, Stupid, Love." (a bit metaphorical, eh?) It's much more enjoyable to clean to this tune than a terrifying number at a horror movie's end.

Tunes Tuesday: Nikki and Rich

Happy Tunes Tuesday! If V.V. Brown, Amy Winehouse (God bless that woman's soul), and a smidge of Adele had a love child, it would be Nikki and Rich.

Happy end of Summer 2011

Hello, friends! The other night, I had a shindig at my house to celebrate the end of Summer and a birthday coming soon (hearing aids and prosthetic hips, here I come!). Here are some pictures of the fun. Enjoy!

We made a time capsule to be opened in some time... Our predictions were hilarious, although I hope all of them are wrong!

My mom made the "Happy Day" pennant hanging below. Theresa's such a crafty lady!

Jelly shoes

Friends, last night, a friend of mine was talking about Frye boots. Evidently, they're all the rage at Notre Dame (kinda like Toms at IU). After some exploring, I found these flats! They remind me of jelly shoes for grown ups.

Whenever my cousins and I get together, jelly shoes are always brought up, and how great they were! I would definitely consider investing in a pair like these! Would you?

P.s. check out these low tops in the berry color!

Spider Man's got everybody talkin'

Ya know, I don't think I have ever seen a "Spider Man" movie in its entirety. But The New York Times just wrote an article about the Broadway show, and it sounds like it might be worth seeing - either onstage or onscreen!

The latest movie is coming out July 3, 2012.

Featuring Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield from "The Social Network."

Have a romantic weekend!

This song never gets old.

It always takes me back to the scene in The  O.C. when Cohen puts it on his record player, and tells Summer, "I'm sweeping you off your feet."

Here's to a lovely weekend! Me? I'm going to enjoy my last weekend with all my best friends in one place!

Is handwriting dead?

According to this CNN article, 46 states already do not require students to learn cursive writing. With letter writing nearly nonexistent, and the last typewriter factory having closed, is handwriting dying?

Last Summer, I wanted to buy an address book, and my sister asked, "Why? To write everyone's Facebook link in?" Needless to say, I didn't get the book, but my friends and I always exchange addresses, and my heart always gets a'flutter when I receive snail mail.

Check out these cute stationery sets from Paper Source - definitely worth investing in!

Ponytail revamped

I'm in love with how glamorous this ponytail looks!

However, there is no doubt in my mind that if I wore one like it, I would look like a third grader. Slap a neon plastic backpack and braces on me, and we'll call it a day!

Olivia Wilde wears it beautifully, though, don't you think?

Summer is close to an end

I can't get over how few days of Summer we have left! (Anyone else getting bombarded with school-related e-mails already?) I'm looking forward to going back, but I can't help but think of a few things I am going to miss.

1. All that fresh summer produce at my fingertips!

2. Having my best friends right around the corner. It always seems like we're leaving someone or something behind no matter where we go, but I always love having these crazy cats to return to!

3. Having all my clothes in one place. My closet is not nearly this fabulous, but coming from a college-sized closet, mine at home always seems this big!

4. Laying on my porch swing and spending the day reading! Not to mention my killer view...

5. Summer reads! 5.5. Reading without feeling like I should be working on something for school.

6. Being lazy.

Obviously Summer has a lot going for it! What are you going to miss the most?
