Sunday tunes: Ben Rector

Alas, my tunes duty has been a'slackin. It's not due to a lack of tunes, friends. That much I can promise. It's this whole studying thing getting in the way of fun. With two weeks left, papers, exams, and projects, here I come! Herman B Wells* and I are about to rekindle that long lost friendship of ours. Welcome back into my life, sir. I hope you've missed me.

God bless YouTube study breaks and tunes to get me through all the work! My best friend Bridget showed me this fella. He reminds me a lot of Mat Kearney, and dare I say he is my current choice of jam.

*Herman B Wells is the library on campus. Mr. B (no period) Wells was also Hoosier extraordinaire.

Summer 2012

With finals creeping up, I've got my eye on the prize: Summer! Admittedly, I just began my summer must list chocked full of reads, places, and eats, and I'm positively dying to get a start on it in just two weeks.

Here is a top ten (in no particular order) of the things I am most looking forward to!

1. J.K. Rowling is releasing a new book in September. Ok, so it's not technically Summer, but the anticipation has me considering picking up the Harry Potter series again.

2. Visits to Chicago. This summer, I will finally see a play downtown after years of saying I want it to happen!

3. Visits to my cousin's lakehouse. There is absolutely nothing like a warm s'more at the day's end or a good book lakeside.

4. My whole family finally being in the states and together in Munster, even if only for a weekend or two.

5. Having a kitchen at my fingertips to try some new recipes! Carrot cake pancakes, anyone?

6. Dresses. Period.

7. Summer blockbusters, all day erryday. This May movie funk has been killin me.

8. Netflix in the park. Yes please! Maybe with these cute DIY picnic baskets. Or probably everything thrown in a towel and lugged over my shoulder. Let's be real here.

9. All that fresh summer produce, finally! If it weren't for the grill, I swear I could be a vegetarian for the summer months.

10. The Beardies. I'm so thankful we've managed to stay close, and I will nevuh evuh tire of our late night chats, beach trips, or morning work-outs.

Just writing this post has me super excited for Summer! I hope you feel the same, reader-friend.

Happy Little 500 2012!

Happy Little 500, Hoosiers!

This wedding confetti! My heavens, it's gorgeous.

My handwriting says I'm spontaneous and relaxed. Huh.

I have not one idea what this women is saying, but she does take great pictures.

movie theater on the water?

Current song obsession.

I couldn't choose just one dress to link to.

Have you seen the new nail trend?

Loved the trend Jessie J. modeled in the latest Glamour issue!

Living Architecture

Would you ever stay in a floating farm?

It's part of living architecture: a social endeavor in the UK designed to encourage the enjoyment of world-class architecture. You can rent out the above pictured floating farm, a grounded houseboat in London, and lots of other crazy designs.

Think of renting the house from Inception, and you've got the idea!

Tiny kitchens get the job done

I have no idea what I'll be doing after college or where I'll be, but I can most definitely assure you that I see a big wide open kitchen somewhere in my future. Until then, the extent of my cooking takes place in the microwave at my sorority house #firstworldproblems.

Since moving to New York, my oldest sister lives in a shoebox where the kitchen is the living room, the TV room, and hell, the foyer for that matter. Space is the crux of NYC living. Check out how some people have made the most of their kitchen situation, and pray to heavens that I don't have to put my fridge on my counter one day (oh, the woes!).

p.s. In other weird food news. And just look at what Burger King has in the works.

My weekend with Marilyn

I finally got to see My Week with Marilyn this past weekend, and I highly recommend it. What a classy, misunderstood, and overall fierce broad this woman was!

One of her many autobiographies is most definitely going on my summer must read list (is it bad that I've already started a list of the films and books I'd like to read in the upcoming months? Answer: no).

Check out what one of the gems of our generation has to say about this lady. And here's the trailer if you haven't heard anything about this film. Michelle Williams would have had my vote for an Oscar!

Happy Easter

My dog Bailey is another member of the family, it's true. Since my sisters and I have all left the house for college, jobs, and travel, we always joke that one day we will return and one of our rooms will be Bailey's humble abode and/ or closet.
Oh heavens - I don't put it past my mother.

These few shots sum up the weekend (and Bailey) nicely...

The weekend would not have been complete without an Easter funfetti cake. Nobody can combine eggs, water, and oil quite like this girl! Don't mind the missing M&M smile!

Tunes Tuesday: Walk the Moon

This one's been stuck in my head all weekend long, and it should be stuck in yours too!

What if someone else directed The Hunger Games?

I have still yet to see "The Hunger Games," but Entertainment Weekly decided it would be funny to recreate movie posters if other directors had gotten a hold of the film. Check them out if you're looking for a good laugh!
