Happy happy Monday

It has been rainy and bipolar outside lately. Woof.

Shouldn't I be barefoot in the grass or laying at the park in shorts and sandals? False! The rain has given me an excuse to stay indoors and read all day. Not to mention those clothes aren't going to unpack themselves.

A few surprises to brighten your week...

I love seeing weekly wrap-ups! ...or monthly too.

These shots don't make me feel like I live in the twenty-first century.

I have got to try this recipe soon!

Can't yet decide if the hype makes it worth the read...

Tiny kitchens get the job done

I have no idea what I'll be doing after college or where I'll be, but I can most definitely assure you that I see a big wide open kitchen somewhere in my future. Until then, the extent of my cooking takes place in the microwave at my sorority house #firstworldproblems.

Since moving to New York, my oldest sister lives in a shoebox where the kitchen is the living room, the TV room, and hell, the foyer for that matter. Space is the crux of NYC living. Check out how some people have made the most of their kitchen situation, and pray to heavens that I don't have to put my fridge on my counter one day (oh, the woes!).

p.s. In other weird food news. And just look at what Burger King has in the works.

Twenty-first century recipes from back in the day

I'm pretty sure my Dad could like nothing more than this "The Back in the Day Cookbook."

...except maybe for this map of the U.S. made of cast iron skillets.

My dad is all about good hearty cooking - stews, dense cakes or pies, and most everything includes crazy amounts of butter (Paula Dean would be proud). The molasses ginger cookies in this book would be right up his alley! Every time we come home, he always insists on making a huge breakfast of fried eggs and hash browns, toast - you name it, the man cooks it (all on a cast iron skillet, might I add)! Homemade meals are just one of the many plusses of being home. We even say no one cooks tea quite like my Dad, too. It's just boiling water, but the man's a culinary genius! Everything just tastes better when you're home, wouldn't you agree?

Strawberry trifle? Yes, please!

I've recently given up chocolate and candy for Lent. The first three days, I realized just how much I ate the two... and just how much my roommates could have killed me due to my lack of sugar.

Post-Easter, I can promise this strawberry trifle will be on my list of baking-musts!

What I ate today

Welcome back! I thought I would share some photos with the new camera today. About 90% of this blog features food, so why change things now, eh?

mozzarella and tomato sandwich with parmesan cheese, made with...

MOZZARELLA BIGGER THAN YOUR HEAD!

Guess it's been a red foods kinda week.

 Don't worry, I didn't eat Bailz.

No matter what, she'll always be the most photogenic little thang I ever did meet!
