New York Times Magazine: The Hollywood Issue

I'm a huge fan of all things magazine, but New York Times's T Magazine is especially cool. It features  everything from food to travel to a look of the moment. And the best part? The great majority of their content is available online! Hooray for free news (for now, at least)!

With the Winter Break approaching (read: time for movie watching on the couch), check out their vote for top actors and actresses. In years past, they've opted for still photos to highlight the talent. This year, they decided to use video to reenact iconic villain moves. I was waiting for Ryan Gosling to do something epic, but all he does is smoke and walk away. Funny how our brains associate such simple actions with anticipation and villainy.

P.s. See behind the shoot here

"Melancholia"

Have you heard of "Melancholia?" It's about a planet hitting Earth amid familial and sister tensions. (Sounds like the foreign planet's a bigger metaphor here, no?)

It doesn't come out in the U.S. until the end of November, but you can watch the trailer here! Plus, Kirsten Dunst won Best Actress at The Cannes Film Festival this past year for her performance. Add this baby to the Grdina family holiday movie list!

Movie trailers

I could see myself totally being into this movie when I was little. And ok, yeah, I'm probably still going to see it when it comes out.

On a completely unrelated movie note... A romance about two young lovers. Although it looks rathuh dramatic, I'd see it, if only because Ingrid's playing!

Anyone read "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?" I have not, but some of my best friends are really into the novels. No matter how many times someone explains the plot to me, I still couldn't tell you what it's about. IMDB explains it nicely as "A journalist is aided in his search for a woman who has been missing - or dead - for forty years by a young female hacker." Cool.

I quite honestly am not sure if one of these is the Swedish version that come out first in 2009. Get this: the author of the books died, and actually left the trilogy unpublished. It's a shame he couldn't live to see himself become the world's second best selling author in 2008 with 8 million copies sold behind the author of "The Kite Runner." Correct me if I'm wrong, because I would have thought J.K. Rowling would be up there. But perhaps she's in a league of her own.

Happy weekend!

Oh my! Look at this cute happy couple! They have such a wonderful home full of all their adventures and lots of love, and it actually looks lived in too. It reminds me of what my sister Madeline's apartment will look like!

And while you're at it, check out this woman's photos of Paris! It's been a summer of serious wanderlust, and these shots have me drooling. Anyone else see Midnight in Paris? Owen Wilson gets in a cab every evening at midnight and travels back to Paris in the twenties, where he meets the Fitzgeralds, Hemingway, and even Toulouse Lautrec!

It's a summer of great European-inspired films!
